HOUR 24

THANK YOU! YOU ARE AMAZING! First of all, we want to thank you for participating in our event, we gave it our full 110% to make it an event to remember. We are truly thankful for your trust in us and we hope that you’ve made some amazing memories with your teammates, friends, family and supporters in your box.

Together we’ve all added a little bit to each others stories of greatness.

Just getting to the last hour and finishing these 24 hours of non-stop CrossFit is a huge achievement on its own and makes you a TRUE CHAMPION!

24AMRAP Crew, Helmond, the Netherlands

Now onto the last 3 movements:

OH Squat 15/20 – squat down to where the top of the knee is higher than the crease of the hip holding the barbell in the OH position with fully extended arms – 1 OHS counts as 1 point

Squat Clean for weight – perform a squat clean so clean from the floor and go into a full squat, extend fully with barbell in rack position, that’s one rep. Touch and go or drop barbell and reset is both acceptable *power clean + front squat is allowed* – 1kg moved = 1 point

Mystery Movement 5: Zombie Walk [1m:3] – put a towel or t-shirt on the floor and place your feet on it in plank position, then “walk” forward using your hands and maintaining plank position. Don’t forget to smile ūüėČ – 1 meter = 3 points

The Days After

Warriors!

Congrats! You survived the 24-hour AMRAP Challenge. Designed to be the ultimate physical and mental ultra endurance team test for CrossFit athletes, this is no small accomplishment! Now the aftermath and revovery process starts. Here are some tips we accumulated over the years as competitors and organizers to help with that:

  • eat and drink many, many calories! – you burn through 10k calories during the #24AMRAP easily and to replenish and rebuild, you need calories
  • recovery work – although hanging out on the couch watching Netflix might feel right, we highly recommend revovery work: stretching, SMR work, ROMWOD, active recovery work on the rower or stationary bike etc, it will significantly speed recovery time (and make you feel better)
  • because this challenge is so exhausting and taxing mentally, we also highly recommend not forgetting about mental and psychological recovery: spend quality time with your loved ones, visit the box to have some coffee and talk to your teammates, coaches and fellow community members. The mind is a muscle, do not neglect it, it controls your body. If you need to find some clarity after this barrage of stimuli and sensory overload try an app like Headspace to find your bearings again.

Rest well friend, we are proud of you and yours.

5 Tips To Win The 24AMRAP challenge

Mighty warriors. Only hours to go before we deepdive into the adventure that is the 24AMRAP Challenge and to boldly go where no CrossFitter has gone before. Kinda.¬†In an earlier post we talked about surviving the 24AMRAP, now let’s talk about winning it. Here are 5 tips, based on the data and experience¬†shared by previous champions, and succesful teams from around the globe:

  1. Reps Are King – let’s not beat around the bush, defending World Champions “Pennies For The Boatman” cranked out 53000+ reps last year. That means that if you want to get a shot at the title, you need to consistently bang out at least 2300 reps per hour. For 24 hours.
  2. No Sleep Till Booklyn – a no-brainer really, ¬†champions don’t lie down and snooze the night away…
  3. Don’t Waste A Second – to maximize the amount of reps produced, you need to position and plan your carrousel in such a way that there are never athletes standing around, looking for equipment, or walking towards the pull-up bars etc. You lose reps, see point 1
  4. Caroussel Eating – keep the food and drinks nearby and refuel while the carrousel keeps on turning, eating and drinking right after your turn, maximizing rep production
  5. The Right Soldiers For The Mission – we’ve seen firsthand how some members from a team want to go for max reps every hour and other members from that team just want to hang out, sip coffee and chill. If you want to win, make sure you are in the right team!

Have fun preparing!
